Healthy Lifestyles

Grades 9-12

Length-1 semester

This course promotes wellness and good health.  The central focus will be health maintenance through food planning, safe food preparation, and making health-conscious lifestyle choices.

Personal Financial Literacy

Grades 11-12

Length- 1 semester

This personal finance course prepares students for everyday family financial decision making. Topics covered include:  goal setting and needs vs. wants, career development and research, spending plans, paychecks and taxes, savings and investing, housing and transportation, credit and identity protection, as well as incorporating practical life skills.  (This is a required course forgraduation for the class of 2013 and beyond)

Fundamentals of Food

Grades 11-12

Length-1 semester

Students acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to become informed consumers, and safe handlers of food.  Students will master the skills required to safely prepare and store food and reduce the risk of food borne illness. 

Child Development

Grades 11-12

Length- 1 semester

Unsure about children?  Undecided if you want to be a parent?  This course will address many issues of parenting and child development.  Topics include- Are you ready to be a Parent, Technological advances during pregnancy, caring for infants and children and child care.  Lab experiences will be provided to help students become aware of differences and similarities of children.

Become Consumer Savvy

Grades 9-12

Length-1 semester

Students gain critical knowledge and sills to help them function as informed, educated and responsible consumers.  They will determine needs based on values, critique the media’s accurate representation of goods and services, compare and judge quality of products in order to make responsible decisions and exercise their consumer rights.   Students will better understand consumer behaviors, national and world events, economic trends and the environmental impact of such.
